Welcome to the School District of Mauston

OPEN ENROLLMENT APPLICATION PERIOD BEGINS MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1

WELCOME TO MAUSTON! ... HOME OF WISCONSIN'S TEACHER OF THE YEAR
OUR SCHOOL CAN BE YOUR SCHOOL!

Open enrollment is free and available to Wisconsin students through Wisconsin's public school choice program, as outlined in Wisconsin Statutes 118.51. The School District of Mauston currently welcomes 68 non-resident students who attend our schools under the open enrollment program. We are eager to have the opportunity to discuss the programs and facilities that Mauston can offer to your children!  Cutting edge technology in all buildings, a state-of-the art auditorium at Mauston High School, and an indoor swimming pool are just a few of the opportunities we offer.
We invite you to take a "virtual tour" of our district on this website... and of course, you are very welcome to call any of our school buildings to schedule a building visit. Our administrators will be happy to discuss your child's specific interests and needs, as well as to show you what Mauston has to offer.

Scroll down to the Open Enrollment tab on the left-hand of this page and click there for more application instructions and forms.

Students will return to classes from spring break on that day to make up for the closure on December 9th. If you have questions about the school calendar, please feel free to call the district office at 847-5451.

Changes in Bus Traffic Flow and
Student Pickup at Grayside Avenue Campus

We have received many positive comments on the changes in the afternoon lineup of the buses at the Grayside Avenue Campus. The new system is working well, and the buses are able to leave in a timely manner!

The Jevco buses will continue to park in a straight row, with the first bus parking near Olson Middle School, and the last bus near the MHS flagpoles/entrance. The buses will enter the campus using the driveway on the FAR WEST SIDE of the high school campus.

Personal vehicles for Grayside and Olson Middle School student pickup will continue to enter and line up in the same areas previously used. Vehicles will no longer be able to proceed into the parking area that is immediately adjacent to the Grayside office, from 3:00 p.m. until the buses leave the Grayside complex. This area will be blocked off by the buses during afternoon pickup. Parents who need to park and pick up students at Grayside during the bus loading period should park in the parking lot across from the district office. No adults or students may walk between buses. Please use the designated crosswalk by the district office only.

At MHS, personal vehicles will enter for pick-up and drop-off at the FAR WEST END of the parking lot, entering the lot nearest that point. Vehicles should travel east through the parking lot, pick up or drop off students at the sidewalk, and exit to the left, using the main entrance to the high school. Vehicles will not be allowed to enter or park along the main MHS entrance sidewalk, or in front of the high school.

Please click the link below to refer to the map which illustrates these important changes, which are being made with the safety of the students in mind. If you have questions regarding the change in traffic pattern, please contact Julie Lankey-Smallwood, Transportation Director, in the district office at 847-5451, ext. 6681.

Mauston School District Receives $35,496
Energy-Efficient Lighting Incentive

(L-R) Mary Eiler-Radl Alliant Energy, Rick Noe, Mauston Buildings & Grounds Director, Steve Craker, Energy Advisor/Focus on Energy, and Steve Smolek, Mauston School Superintendent

The School District of Mauston has received a financial incentive in the amount of $35,496 from Focus on Energy, Wisconsin's statewide resource for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
The dollars will go toward a lighting retrofit project that replaced lights in five of the district's buildings with more cost-effective and energy efficiency lamps. To officially recognize the project's completion, a check presentation attended by school district, Focus on Energy, and Alliant Energy representatives was recently held at the Mauston School District.
