Quality Educational Experience
Highly qualified teachers deliver core instruction in the areas of Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Continual formative and summative student assessments, curriculum revisions and teacher collaboration help our students achieve academic success.
The educational experience is further enhanced through Encore classes which include Music, Computers, Art, Physical Education and Library.

Responsive Classroom
The Responsive Classroom approach to teaching and learning fosters safe, challenging, and joyful elementary classrooms and schools. Developed by classroom teachers, this approach consists of teaching practices for bringing together social and academic learning throughout the school day. Responsive Classroom practices include Morning Meeting, Creating Rules, Interactive Modeling, Teacher Language, Logical Consequences, Guided Discovery, Academic Choice, Classroom Organization, Collaborative Problem Solving and Working with Families. Our staff uses these strategies to increase student investment, responsibility and learning while decreasing inappropriate behaviors.

21st Century Technology
As digital natives, students are provided with opportunities both in and outside the classroom. Classrooms are equipped with smart boards and computer stations to enhance their learning in a variety of ways.   In addition to our computer lab station in the library, our school has a mobile netbook lab that is utilized in the classroom.

SAGE
Child-centered instruction in small class sizes provides excellent educational opportunities. The Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program was implemented to improve student achievement through lower class sizes in the primary grades (K-3).

Parents and Teachers for Children
This is an organization that brings teachers and parents together to help the children in our school in a variety of ways. They lend themselves to strengthening academics by holding fundraisers to purchase educational materials that benefit the students. They also provide social opportunities to enhance the overall educational experience.

Title I Services
Our school has qualified Title I teachers that work with our students to increase their learing in Math and reading through a School Wide Approach. Title I teachers work with the classroom teachers to provide whole group instruction as well as individual instruction.

West Side combines experience with vision to create an exciting environment for its PreK-2 students. Our staff is united in their commitment to the goals and beliefs outlined in our mission statement to help each child to succeed.
  • West Side students exemplify Mauston's standards of excellence. Whether sharing discoveries in the classroom, pursuing learning on-line, or developing friendships on the playground, they are constantly learning and growing while enjoying school!
